In Active Voice, Ron published a multi-part series about what cancer is, conventional treatments, alternative treatments and the politics of the multi-billion dollar cancer industry. Ron freely shared full packets of his research with friends and strangers who had cancer or knew somebody who did.
He never asked for anything in return.
For some, the information was helpful. For others, it may not have been. Ironically, in the end, cancer kicked Ron's ass.
Ron resisted today's conventional treatments, which he considered to be barbaric, and which boast exaggerated success rates along with questionable defintions of success. After his own holistic approaches didn't work, and after a trip to a holistic cancer clinic in Florida that may or may not have been a scam, Ron did undergo surgery, then, while in advaced stages, did radiation and chemotherapy.
Before being diagnosed with rectal cancer, Ron had reported some ominous symptoms, such as bloody wipes. His distrust of the cancer industry was one reason why he delayed getting the problem checked out. Colorectal cancer usually doesn't show symptoms - like blood - until cancer is in advanced, less treatable stages, according to conventional wisdom.
Could Ron have been cured, either by proper holistic or "conventional" treatments?
Maybe.
Maybe not.
Maybe, however, it was just his time to move on to the next stop in his spiritual journey.
